Florida Residents Better Protected in 2007 with State-of-the-Art Emergency Alert Network
WASHINGTON, December 8, 2006 – Taking another step forward to enhance their ability to respond to public health emergencies, the State of Florida Department of Health (FDOH) has acquired a state-of-the-art multi-media alerting and online collaboration platform for emergency preparedness and response. Implemented in 2006, Global Secure Response Manager™ provides a secure network for issuing emergency alerts and other communications to FDOH personnel – and other government agencies – when an incident occurs.
“This system enables officials from the public health, public safety and critical incident response community to jointly prepare emergency response plans and protocols,” said Westin Dillard, Vice-President of Development for Global Secure Systems. “And once a crisis happens, the FDOH can quickly alert officials and first responders to the crisis and continue to provide real-time situational awareness data to them via their office phones, cellular phones, Blackberries and pagers.”
As the fourth largest state in the country, Florida is home to over 17 million residents who depend on the FDOH to respond to public health emergencies.
“Florida is one of many states that are implementing this state-of-the-art infrastructure to ensure an effective response to the wide variety of issues that could impact the state” said Eric Shaffer, President of Global Secure Systems. “We look forward to continuing to provide the people of Florida, as well as our other customers, both off-the-shelf and customized solutions that meet their public health and safety needs,” he added.
Whether a public health emergency results from a natural disaster such as a hurricane or an avian flu outbreak, or from a man-made disaster such as a terrorist strike, the citizens of Florida can be confident in the FDOH’s ability to respond quickly to address the situation.
