Maine Protects Residents with State-of-the-Art Emergency Preparedness and Response Network

Alexandria, VA May 21, 2007 – To enhance the State of Maine’s ability to respond to public health emergencies, the Maine Office of Public Health Emergency Preparedness (MOPHEP) has acquired Global Secure Response Manager™, an online collaboration platform for emergency preparedness and response. Global Secure Response Manager also provides a secure network for issuing alerts and other communications to MOPHEP personnel – and other government agencies – when an incident occurs.

“This system enables officials from the public health, public safety and critical incident response community to jointly prepare emergency response plans and protocols,” said Weston Dillard, Vice-President of Development for Global Secure Systems. “And once a crisis happens, the MOPHEP can quickly alert officials and first responders to the crisis and continue to provide real-time situational awareness data to them via their office phones, cellular phones and pagers.”

Over 1 million residents depend on the MOPHEP to respond to public health emergencies.

“Maine is one of 21 states that are implementing this state-of-the-art infrastructure to ensure an effective response to the wide variety of issues that could impact the state” said Eric Shaffer, President of Global Secure Systems. “We look forward to continuing to provide the people of Maine, as well as our other customers, both off-the-shelf and customized solutions that meet their public health and safety needs,” he added.

Whether a public health emergency results from a natural disaster such as a flood or an avian flu outbreak, or from a man-made disaster such as a terrorist strike, the citizens of Maine can be confident in the MOPHEP’s ability to respond quickly to address the situation.
