Global Secure Receives First Order for its Body Ventilation System™ from U.S. Army for Troops Deployed in Iraq
Patent Pending Body Ventilation System™ Provides a Light Weight Cooling System for the Individual Soldier
WASHINGTON – April 3, 2006 – Global Secure has received its first order for the Body Ventilation System (“BVS”), a light-weight cooling system that seamlessly integrates with the Interceptor Body Armor being worn by soldiers throughout the world.
The BVS unit weighs less than five pounds and has been demonstrated in field tests in the U.S. and Iraq to significantly reduce the discomfort of a soldier in combat dress, including body armor, in both hot-dry and high humidity climates, the company said.
The initial production run will be shipped early this summer to Iraq, where summer temperatures sometimes exceed 125 degrees F.
“The Body Ventilation System addresses a concern identified through a Cooperative Research and Development program with the Army,” said Craig Bandes, president and CEO of Global Secure. “The Army found that service members operating in intense ambient heat were opening up their body armor to get some relief. An improvised explosive device that detonated at a time like that could critically injure or lead to mortal wounds for the soldier. This product solves a critical problem for our military by keeping troops cooler and thus better protected.”
The initial applications are focused on the military, but the BVS is well suited for use in numerous other high temperature environments including border security, law enforcement, wild land fire-fighting, and industrial applications where workers are exposed to potential heat related injuries. “We believe the BVS has significant commercial potential,” Mr. Bandes said.
